Micky van de Ven scored on two occasions as Spurs prolonged their unbeaten run on the road in the Premier League and handed Everton their initial loss at their new home.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their last five matches at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left their historic home behind after 133 years at the end of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman struck on two occasions from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to place their strong form at risk, and they were failed to turn it around before the midfielder - assisted by former Toffees attacker the Brazilian - headed home a final goal to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien believed he had levelled the tally a short while after the defender's opener, directing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

Beto, meanwhile, missed a handful of chances, while Vicario made a series of fine stops to ensure the London club went five matches on the road without defeat in the English top flight.

But the VAR intervened, instructing the match official to review the score on the screen and the official ruled that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

This victory elevates the manager's team up to third in the division, five points off local foes and table-toppers Arsenal.

Everton stay in 14th position and are half a dozen points clear of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender excels in role at both ends of pitch

After a drab midweek display in the European competition against the French side, where they mustered a only two shots on target, the manager chose Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The summer signing was failed to influence the game before being substituted for Richarlison after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it emerged he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Defender Van de Ven converted into an offensive threat to be feared.

Spurs' first goal came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with the midfielder directing the ball toward the face of goal for an free the defender to score.

Everton analysis: Toffees lacking finishing touch

The club's new home had been a fortress, but it appears the freshness may have faded slightly and supporters flocked to the exits after the midfielder's third for Tottenham.

The break in Everton's unbeaten home run will not be a massive concern for David Moyes, but their attacking woes will be.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' two established strikers - had scored just one league goal combined before the weekend's match.

And they were failed to contribute to that poor record on a damp and dreary evening on in Liverpool.

The striker's performance was epitomized when he chose to overhead kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, despite having room and time to reposition for a simpler attempt that would have challenged Vicario.

The substitute, as well, was unable to make an impact after replacing the starter in the 65th minute.

It wasn't for a shortage of chance. The majority of the home side's attacks came through the winger and Ndiaye, who relentlessly whipped threatening balls into the Tottenham penalty area.

The Toffees: Moyes' men travel to the Stadium of Light in the top flight on early November at 8 PM.
